BBC - The Name Of The Rose

Here's a very well done version of The Name Of The Rose. If you ever saw the film, you'll most likely enjoy this audio adaptation carried out by the BBC. For those who do not know, The Name Of The Rose is, in a nutshell, a murder mystery set in the early half of the 14th century in a remote Italian monastery.

Here's an Edgar Allan Poe short story read by actor Christopher Lee. Another great voice that suits the work at hand.

One For The Road a vampire short story

Well here's a short story by Stephen King involving vampires in the state of Maine. This short story is basically an extension of the vampire novel King wrote called Salem's Lot which in turn was his attempt to place Bram Stoker's Dracula in the United States during the 1970s in Maine. It's one of King's better works and is recommendable for an autumn read in the late hours of the day with crisp October air creeping into your room.

Father Brown 2 dramatized short mysteries

I've always had mixed feelings about Father Brown. He's a religious man who believes in mystical and faithful things yet uses science and reason to a degree. There are parts I like about the character and stories and some parts I really walk-away thinking "This character is weak compared to Sherlock Holmes and most of his solving is done through feelings and hunches it seems". One reason I'm posting these two short-mysteries is because the BBC did them back in the 1980s and of course they are very well done. Another aspect is the historical time period. I find the late 19th century and decades before WW2 interesting in terms of back-story and characters and settings.

Richard Dawkins Rap - Beware the Believers

One of the most intelligent and well-done videos I've seen on YouTube. Some people say the message of the video can be taken either way, whether pro-science or pro-religion. I, personally, think it goes to the scientist as a nice way of addressing the desparate on-going religious attempts to make their faith-based beliefs legit and somehow tested and rounded as science. However, I guess you can see it how you want. Besides, seeing Hitchens and Dawkins in this manner is great and hilarious. As a few Ozzies say, "Good Gear!"

Shirley Jackson's The Lottery OTR

Shirley Jackson's short story The Lottery is most likely her most well-read and influential piece of fiction. It has inspired and psychologically creeped out many readers and writers through the recent decades. Most notably, prolific horror-meister Stephen King. Mr. King wrote a made-for-TV miniseries called The Storm Of The Century in 1999. Its story is basically a modern retelling of The Lottery with King's own small twists and his home state of Maine thrown into the mix.
